Where do you train your clients?
All of my personal training services are mobile, meaning they are set-up in the comfort of your own home. I will also train with individuals at a worksite or outdoor location, depending on your interests and availability.
What type of equipment do I need?
Minimal equipment is required to be successful in your program. So much of what can be done requires the use of just your body. Most of our training is functional, meaning it will mimic your everyday movements and involves mainly weight bearing activities that will activate your core muscles. To get started, we need an exercise ball, some type of resistance (exercise band or free weights) and an open space in your home to work-out safely. Through the course of the program, I will bring different equipment with me to incorporate into your workout. This is a great way to “try it before you buy it!” All my equipment can be purchased at a discounted rate through my business partnerships!
What does the initial session consist of?
The first step consists of an in-person or telephonic consultation to help answer your questions and get to know you and your goals. It also gives me the chance to explain how I work and what I can offer.
If you decide that personal training is a fit for you, I will send you several intake forms to get started. This is a great way for me to get to know you, your medical and exercise history, training goals and expectations.
Personal training is just that- personal. My goal is to get to know you so that I can design a program that best tailors your lifestyle, personality, health history, in-home equipment and short term goals. At our first session, we will do the following comprehensive assessments:
- Goal Assessment
- Biometric Testing: heart rate, blood pressure, weight, body fat percentage, resting metabolism, inches
- Postural Analysis
- Muscular Strength, Endurance and Core Testing
Although we may not workout much the first day, a game plan will be created to make this program be successful for you!
What does a personal trainer actually do?
Well, that depends on the personal trainer. I suppose that some only show you exercises and count sets. I actually meet with you and find out as much about your lifestyle and goals as possible. Then, when I'm explicitly clear on what you hope to obtain, I design a training program for you and show you exactly how to do everything you need to do. I also design a full nutrition regimen that fits into your lifestyle, free of charge. Although training sessions only last an hour, I am always accessible via phone and email for all of my clients to provide you unlimited support.
What kind of results should I expect working with a personal trainer?
It really depends on how much effort you put into your training program. In 2- 6 weeks, clients will feel more energized, sleep better and start to feel changes in how clothes are fitting. These are the initial weeks when your body is making changes at the neuromuscular, cardiovascular and pulmonary levels. By week 12, most clients will see a substantial change in body composition as well as some change on the scale. It is important to remember that you may only workout with your trainer 1-3 hours per week, so what will make you or break it is what you choose to do when you’re NOT with your trainer (and it is the trainer's responsibility to provide you with that information). Of course, the closer you follow the lifestyle developed for you by your trainer, the better results you will have.
How often should I meet with a personal trainer?
This is very dependent on the individual and there are a few factors to consider, including budget, prior exercise experience, and how quickly you want to achieve your goals. An honest, professional trainer should be able to give you an honest assessment and make a recommendation on what they feel would be your best course of action. In my experience, clients who have met with me more frequently in the beginning of the program are more successful in their adherence and overall fitness goals.
How often do you change the training program?
I constantly change your training program to keep your body guessing and to keep you from getting bored. As your body adapts, your program will progress to ensure that you keep making strides toward your goals.
How long should I use a personal trainer?
This is up to you. I have some clients that just want a basic grasp of how to work-out and only meet with me a few times, and I have some clients that have been training with me for years, a few times a week. It really depends on what you want as an individual.
What does a normal in-home session consist of?
Every individual’s training sessions are different based upon their goals, but most programs consist of a light warm-up, 40-50 minutes of resistance training, followed by a cool-down and stretching period. Depending on the individual's goals, a cardio regimen may also be followed or incorporated into the session. These workouts tend to be your key-workout for the week and become the building block for the rest of your weekly routine.
